Why
wear a swim cap?
Swim caps are
worn for many reasons: to protect your hair from chlorine and keep it from
tangling, to help you streamline as you swim, to insulate the top of your head
when you're in cold water. During a meet, they also make you visible to the
coaches. They also match your swim suit and show team pride!
New
Swim Caps are in and available to purchase at all meets ($13). Get yours today
and be sure to label it with a sharpie.
Swim
Team Membership Requirements:
Speed
is not a requirement to join the stingrays but safety definitely is, so
all
children signing up for the stingrays must be able to swim the length of
the
pool. Swim Team is not a
substitute for swim lessons, if your child is not water safe then the coaches
will ask that your child register for the MINI-RAY program, details to be
announced at registration.
The
Summer Swim Team program requires a large number of volunteers.
In order to register your child an adult from your family must be
willing to volunteer during the summer swim season.
Sign-up sheets for the volunteer positions will be at registration.
Registration forms will not be accepted until an adult has signed up to
volunteer for the required amount of time.
If everyone does their part we can have a terrific year!
We’re glad to see those of you who swam with us last year and we’re excited to welcome new stingray swimmers and families.
Our goals this year are to:
-
Have fun while
learning the sport of swimming
-
Challenge each
swimmer to achieve his/her potential and develop positive self-esteem
-
Foster teamwork,
good sportsmanship, and a family oriented environment
-
Build lasting
friendships
-
Instill in our
children a love of swimming
For those parents who
are new to the Ashland Stingrays, this handbook is to help you transition into
the swim team life. Every
swimmer’s parent has experienced the first day of swim practice or that first
swim meet where they wonder “why am I here and what’s going on?”
We’ve all been there before and will be glad to help you understand the
world of summer swimming. Welcome,
we are glad to have you with us.
Mission
Statement:
The philosophy of the
Ashland Stingrays is that having fun is the most important thing we can do!
It is important to establish a healthy environment that encourages the
swimmers to do their best, recognizes their contributions, and is fun for the
entire family. Three important
characteristics for swimmers to posses at all times are dedication, commitment
and a positive attitude. We will
then have met our goals.
We are all looking
forward to a great season!!!

2007 Ashland
Swim Team Board
